The Annotated Wacky Packages All-New Series 2

Neil Camera: "Queerasil" was one of my early concepts for ANS2 and my very first Wacky painting. It served as a great learning tool and helped me reconnect with the Wacky philosophy. As some of you may know, I worked on a similar project called Pranky Products a few years ago. While I'm very proud of them, I realize now that digital art can't replace a "warm" paintbrush. In any event, "Queerasil" was just plain fun! I've always wanted to do an alien in the same vein as Melty Way (goofy sci-fi) — it just took a while to find the right product!

Camera: I wish all Wackys were this easy! "Queerasil" is one of the few that went from start to finish without any significant changes. At one point, I suggested "Your Friends Won't Recognize You" as a tagline, but in the end, we stuck with the original.
Camera: This was a quick color rendition that helped me determine the strengths and weaknesses of the original concept. It's pretty loose and I actually prefer this alien's look — he seems goofier, somehow.
Camera: I painted this with gouache and a "3 bristle brush." Some of the detail requires a magnifying glass to see! I probably spent about 15 hours on the painting, but because gouache takes so long to dry, it was done over the course of several weeks with plenty of coffee breaks!
